HASEKAMP, UTA//KONEMANN//PINTURA
Painting from 1200 to 1500 is a mirror of its time, marked by deep religiosity and progressive tendencies, by economic prosperity and by devastating wars and epidemics. The religious perspective is accompanied by secular themes and motifs and efforts to achieve a realistic form of representation. These developments occur in book illumination, which was accessible to few people, as well as in the public media of frescoes and, since about 1300, also in panel paintings. With around 500 works, Gothic offers an overview of the visual art of the time.
